Macau Design Centre grand opening
Macau Design Centre is the first complex service platform which aims to stimulate the development of Macau Design Industry. Macau designers, design enterprises and design lovers can have the opportunity to exchange, to promote, to learn and to cooperate through this platform. Also, niches can be expanded, and originality can be inspired. Located at Areia Preta, the building was restored from an abandon historical factory, and it includes 17 studios, My Good Goods Creative Store, coffee shop, bookstore, Stage, Exhibition hall, Good Lab and a Rooftop garden in order to gather the design resources and provide space for different kinds of activities relating to design. Macau Design Centre was operational in November, 2014. However, the official Grand opening of it was at 4:00p.m on 15th August, 2015, and it was held in Travessa da Fabrica N0. 5, Macau. Also, the opening of the first Macau Design Week was on the same day. It was a bustling opening having design organizations from Macau and four places across straits.
The grand opening of Macau Design Centre was also very special. Every guest was holding a laser pointer and on the count of 3 they pointed the laser to the crystal ball on the top. The visual image of Macau Design Centre is made from crystal, which means shaping the future together with a diverse area as design circle. This was the beginning of the ceremony and was followed by the video MAPPING exclusively created for the opening ceremony, Neba Studio. It’s worth mentioning that the word line MACAU DESIGN CENTRE is composed by the old window frame in this factory, which has more than 50 years history. This also represents the respect we have for this old factory building and the perfect combination of the modern and the past. Following the ceremony, wonderful traditional Portuguese music performance was presented.
