nepal fund raising

Nepal Fundraising Event 30.05.15 at Macau Design Centre PRESS RELEASE

After the Gorkha Earthquake of April 25th, the whole world has been feeling a ripple effect of trauma 8500 lives were lost along with a half a million homes were destroyed. Many people were left stranded without emergency medical care.

The mainstream media touched on the event like many global disasters for about the same time it takes a goldfish to forget something. We are holding a fundraising event to show our support to Nepal, to show we have not forgotten. Now is the time the Nepalese will need to use the spirit to rebuild.

A Fundraising event will be held by people that have come together to help realize this support. There will be insight stories about Nepal, Jazz + Experimental Music, Drinks and Momos!

Momos are Nepalese dumplings which would be familiar to those that have travelled to Nepal. We will bring delicious Nepalese food experience to Macau.

All the Fundraising will be donated to Tents for Nepal, Tents for Nepal was set up by Tsewang Bhotia to try to help with the immediate needs in the wake of the disaster.

Generous donations, sponsorships and funding came in and there were many offers of help. A three person team, which included Tsewang, departed April 30th with the first load of about 450 kg. A further 320 kg was sent on May 3rd.

Their local partner for this mission is Maiti Nepal (pronounced “Mighty Nepal”), a charity founded by CNN Hero of the Year, Anuradha Koirala. The charity focuses on rescuing orphans, women and girls from human trafficking. Their headquarters remained unscathed and they have been a reliable, secure, organized and very helpful local partner. They have provided help at every level from secure transportation of their goods from the airport to their headquarters to liaison with local authorities in remote regions.

The next stage for Tents for Nepal is SEWA (Shelter, Education, and Welfare Association) for Nepal which will concentrate on construction of sustainable, safe permanent homes and schools for the poorest of the poor in several sponsored villages. This will also be done in collaboration with local groups and teams in Nepal. The pilot project under the SEWA for Nepal banner has already begun with the beginning of construction of 12 homes in the area of Sankhu for Dalit families. (Dalits are a traditionally isolated and excluded caste.)

Come down for a nice Saturday evening to enjoy yourselves and contribute to the ones in need. I can guarantee you will walk away with a smile on your face.
